Folds
Name: Folds
Year: 2019
Description:
This project started out as an attempt to produce depth in a two-dimensional drawing.
The idea, initially, was to use a 2D grid of squares.
Then, by displacing just one row of corners across the entire grid, it would look like you had a surface in 3D with a fold in it.
That’s where the name comes from.
The project went from just one fold to multiple folds.
Further along the way a multitude of combinations of folds in multiple directions were combined.
The result turned from the illusion of three-dimensionality to something rather abstract, but definitely two-dimensional.
During these later stages, the approach can be seen more strongly, whereas during the earlier phases the three-dimensionality can be seen more strongly.
Along the way, a marker square was added to see how some squares were transformed.
